The Natural and Medical Sciences Institute (NMI) at the University of Tuebingen undertakes application-oriented research at the interface between the life sciences and material science. It has unique interdisciplinary competence in providing R&D and services for regional and international companies in the areas of pharma and biotechnology, biomedical technology, and surface and materials technology.
In the field of pharma and biotechnology, the NMI supports the development of new drugs with methods from biochemistry, molecular and cell biology. In biomedical technology, we work on new technologies such as regenerative medicine and micro medicine for new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. For clients in the field of surface and materials technology, the NMI focuses on the analysis, structure and functionalisation of materials and their surfaces.
The NMI is known for its incubator approach for start-ups in the area of biological and materials science.
It is supported by the Ministry for Finance and the Economy of the Federal State of Baden-Wuerttemberg and is a member of the Innovation Alliance Baden-Wuerttemberg, an association of 12 non-university research institutes working closely with industry.
